cw500 : Royal Flemish Vase Mount Washington $4,000.00
Category : Glass
Sub Categories : Art Glass, American, Royal Flemish
Heavily decorated Royal Flemish vase with winged dragon (Griffin) as focal design. Obverse side decorated with mythological beast head. SIZE: 7-1/2” t. Royal Flemish is generally considered to be the top of the line when it comes to Mount Washington glass. The line was first advertised in 1889, but not patented until 1894. Almost all Royal Flemish patterns are decorated with at least some gold gilt. Most pieces will also have maroon as one of the dominant colors. Collectors value Royal Flemish so highly because of the craftsmanship and details that went into each piece. The artists at Mount Washington had to hand decorate each article. Most Royal Flemish ware is not marked. When attempting to identify an authentic example, you just have to look for quality work. Some pieces are marked on occasion. The mark is pictured to the right. One mark is a backwards R and an F, which of course stands for Royal Flemish. Some items could still have an original paper tag. Others could have a handwritten number. That number should correlate to the shape number as assigned by Mount Washington. A vase exactly like this one was auctioned at Julia's spring 2004 glass auction bringing $4312.00 CONDITION: excellent

This basket is 10 ½” long 7 ¾” wide and 8 ½” tall. There appears to be small rough edge under the end of the handle after it was attached to the Basket. It is likely this happened when being made. It has a dark rose to pink interior and white ivory exterior. There is a partially ground pontil.

The vase is particularly difficult to capture its coloring. Depending on lighting conditions the color ranges from a marigold to a silvery iridescent blue green. The photos show examples of this. Monumental Le Verre Francais (LVF) vase. 19 1/8"h.Charles Schneider Glassworks, Épinay-sur-Seine, France, circa 1920. The yellow glass baluster vase with green and red overlay in the Gui pattern. Ref.: p. 89, Joulin and Maier, 2004, (similar). Several different signatures were used for LVF glass. Early marks (1918-1922) consist of a small tri-color glass rod, (berlingot) a patriotic touch representing the red-white-blue French flag, which was fused into the foot or bottom of the piece. Rather than straight, it can also appear as a tight curl. This signature is commonly referred to as a ‘candy cane’. A LVF vase in the Gui pattern, though a bit smaller and without the flared top sold at Heritage Auction, Dallas, in June 2013 for $3125. including the buyers premium.

J414 : Ultra Rare Trevaise Art Glass Vase Alton Glass Works $2,500.00
Category : Glass
Sub Categories : Art Glass, American, Trevaise
A very rare and beautiful Trevaise iridescent vase, footed triangular shape with triangular rim, deep purple decorated with iridescent blue and silver undulating King Tut Pattern. Purple Trevaise is considered to be rare. 10" tall with only minor shelf wear on bottom of foot. Trevaise art glass was the product of Alton Glass works and was only produced in 1907 and 1908. In 1907, Cardinio F. King established the Alton Glass works from the remnants of the Sandwich Glass Co, hiring its experienced and skilled craftsmen. Trevaise was developed by workers that King hired from Tiffany and other major art glass studios. Most importantly, the hiring of an exceptionally talented artisian, Tiffany gaffer and Sandwich MA native, James H. Grady. Grady, was one of only eight gaffers, or shop heads ever to work for Tiffany. An example of this vase is pictured on page 33 of "Miller's Art Glass: How to Compare & Value" by Louise Luther 2002, and also in volume 11 2001 of "The Acorn" Journal of the Sandwich Glass Museum page 50.

Category : Glass
Sub Categories : Art Glass, American, Durand
Rare and beautiful Durand Moorish crackle ball bottle vase, blue and white crackle over ambergris body and lustered, 11 1/4" H. Unsigned. Moorish crackle was difficult to make. While still hot, the plated glass would be dipped in water, fracturing the outside layers. The glass would then be reheated and blown into shape. This would cause the fractures to be spread apart and expose some of the base color. The vase was lustered. Many pieces were damaged in this process. At 11 1/4"h, this is a rather large example of the Morrish Crackle. This vase is flawless!
