Durand Lady Gay Rose King Tut vase. Shape #1701. 7" H. signed Durand (fig. 11 Durand The Man and His Glass Meschi). Lady Gay Rose with gold King Tut decor. Lady Gay Rose was created by using a thin casing of red glass over opal glass. The colors of Lady Gay Rose can vary from a rich red to a very pale pink. The resulting color depended on the thickness and intensity of the red glass used. Quite uncommon, and very desirable today, it was not very popular in its day. This example is perfect, being free of defects and imperfections.

844 : Durand Lady Gay Rose Moorish Crackle Vase Durand $1,100.00
Category : Glass
Sub Categories : Art Glass, American, Durand
Durand Lady Gay Rose Moorish Crackle art glass vase. ca 1924-1930. 8 1/2" h 6 1/2" diameter. Excellent condition no damage or repair. Durand Moorish Crackle, sometimes called Egyptian Crackle, was made from ambergris glass cased in opal and another color over the opal, green, blue and red. The parison, while it was still hot, was dipped into water. This would fracture the outside layers. Then the glass would be reheated and blown and worked to the desired shape causing the fracures to widen and exposing some base color. The vessle would then be lustered and often woiuld be iridized. Moorish Crackle was expensive to make as the pieces were prone to breakage. Examples of Lady Gay Rose Moorish Crackle are difficult fo find. This one is beautiful!!
